SUMMARY OF RESEARCH:
The research and studies emphasize that families which infuse love, appreciation and self confidence in their children build healthy individuals. While families which infuse negative assets in their children such as disinclination, hostility, fear and lack of self confidence build distorted, corrupted and confused individuals socially and emotionally.
A child needs love, compatibility and stability in order to grow emotionally, psychologically, mentally and physically. Moreover, he doesn’t feel secured psychologically unless he feels that he is accepted and loved amongst his family. Some researchers don’t differentiate between the psychological and physical impacts of the different kinds of family violence. They believe that all kinds of physical and psychological violence including violence between parents in front of their children affect the psychological health of the children. They abstract the adjustment of the child in its personal and social dimension.
The research's problem has been defined in the following question:
1- What is the relationship between family violence and the adjustment of teenagers?
Importance of Research:
The importance of the research lies in the following aspects:
1- It deals with family violence which is considered to be the most common and hurtful kind of violence to individuals and society due to its bad impact on the psychological composition of individuals and society.
2- It deals with the most important stage of an individual`s life (the adolescence), where if the teenager goes through this stage without problems, this will positively affect their inner stability and adjustment throughout their entire life.
3- According to the researcher's knowledge there are no local studies about family violence and the adjustment of teenagers.
Objectives of Research:
The research aims at achieving the following:
1- To know the different kinds of family violence displayed by parents
2- To know the different kinds of family violence displayed on teenagers
3- To know the relationship between family violence and adjustment of the teenager
4- Displaying the relationship between family violence and parents level of education
5- Displaying the relationship between family violence and the social and economic level of the family.
Research's Questions :
In light of the objectives of the research the previous attempts to seek answers to following questions
1- What is the rate of spread of domestic violence
2- What is the most common forms of domestic violence
the hypotheses of the research
1- There is no relationship of statistical significance between the mother`s level of education and the occurring of family violence.
2- There is no relationship of statistical significance between the father`s level of education and the occurring of family violence.
3- There is no relationship of statistical significance between the social and economic level of the family and the occurring of family violence.
4- There is no relationship of statistical significance between the family violence and the adjustment of secondary school students.
5- There is no relation of statistical significance between the occurrences of family violence according to the sex variable.
6- There is no relation of statistical significance to the rate of psychological compatibility according to the sex variable
sample of the research:
Research sample was taken from the students of public secondary schools in Damascus, the numbers of the members of the original community of the research was (23285) students enrolled in public secondary schools in Damascus. For the year 2009-2010, as it was reported in the statistics of the Department of Education in Damascus, there were (369) male and female students in the sample taken randomly.
Methodology of Research:
This research depends on the analytical description because such methodology indicates to groups of activities which are common in being aiming to describe attitudes or phenomena in such a matter as such description would be essential to take a certain decision or to support the purposes of research.
Conclusions of Research:
Upon testing the research questions the following conclusions have been reached:
1- More common are severe hardships to some degree, and a low degree, had not been followed by violence, while the least common is the lack of exposure to violence never
2- That most forms of family violence common is mental violence directed towards children, followed by mental violence mutual between parents, and then physical violence directed towards children and, finally, physical violence, mutual between the parents, and this shows the prevalence of mental violence, whether directed towards children or mutual between parents
3- There is a relationship of statistical significance between the mother`s level of education and the occurring of family violence.
4- There is a relationship of statistical significance between the father`s level of education and the occurring of family violence.
5- There is a relationship of statistical significance between the social and economic level of family and the occurring of family violence.
6- There is a relationship of statistical significance between the family violence and the adjustment of the secondary school students.
7- There is a relationship of statistical significance between occurring of family violence according to the sex variable.
8- There is a relationship of statistical significance to the rate of psychological compatibility according to the sex variable
And With regard to what the goals of research, has been fully realized, especially with regard to the relationship between domestic violence and psychological adjustment, and was finally put some suggestions, including: investment results of current research, provide guidance to the category of preventive adolescents.
